November, 2013

November 5 and 6, 2013 Tuesday and Wednesday
Cindy and I had a work trial at Rahier Patisserie.  The first night we started at 3am (almost 9 hours of work without a break), and on the second night, I started at 2am (more than 9 hours of work without a break), and Cindy started at 7am.  In the end, I decided that it might not be a place for me to work.  However, Cindy enjoyed working and learning there, and now is working there full time.

November, 12, 2013 Tuesday
I am grateful that Cindy and I have a chance to follow Chef Christophe from George Brown College and his students, to study pastry for 2 weeks in Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Pâtisserie (ENSP) in the end of April.  With the help of our families, we are able to pay for the first of the two instalments of deposit today.  We both are very excited for the opportunity.  If we could communicate in French, we would try to do internship there.  Anyone wants to help with our French?

November 14, 2013 Thursday
James and I enjoyed Evil Dead-The Musical at Randolph Theatre tonight.  We had actually seen it before, I was surprised to see some of the same actors from the previous show I saw many years ago.


November 15, 2013 Friday
Today makes the second anniversary of my Mom's passing.  I know she's with us all the time.

Our French tutor had to cancel the class today.

November 18, 2013 Monday
Today, I tried to make Caramel Chicken, I think I was a big success!

November 19, 2013 Tuesday
I had to move my car out of the garage this morning for the building to clean.  I did laundry and went to get some baking tools at Academy of Culinary Arts.  Too bad they only had 4 cannelés de Bordeaux molds left in the store.





November 22, 2013 Friday
My Bonnie Gordon College buddy Jeanette texted me a few days ago asking me if I was interested in helping her work called Branded Bites for the busy season.  I told her that I would like to help for a week or so.  I worked from 9am-5pm with breaks! :-)  I was fun to work with Jeanette, and I mainly made cookie doughs, TONS of them, including shortbread and gingerbread.  Even the owner said in the end of the day, that he had never seen so many doughs in the fridge before! LOL

Had Dim Sum with Cindy and Ming today, and Ming gave me a promotion pamphlet from Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa and I could find myself in many pictures here!














November 25-27, 2013 Monday to Wednesday
I had worked at Branded Bites for 3 more days this week.  My body was tired, my hands were sore.....



November 29, 2013 Friday
I had to make some desserts for tonight's gathering at my place.  I baked Cream-Cheese Pound Cakes, Chocolate cupcakes with Lychee buttercream, Cream Puff with Pastry Cream, and Wendy made Tiramisu.  While we were waiting for other people to show up, all the buildings on this street went out of power! Poor Fred and Angela with 2 kids were downstairs waiting.... not long after they decided to leave, the power went back on.  Miss Cheung, on the other hand, totally forgot about this gathering, and thought it was supposed to be on next Friday night....

Lynda (and her friend), Mandy and I went to check out some French pastry shops today, including Nadège Patisserie, Mon K Patisserie, and Thobors Boulangerie Patisserie Café.

Later that day, Dina and Dan arrived here from Ottawa.  They were staying at my place tonight and leaving for Russia tomorrow.  Basically, Cindy and I hadn't seen Dina since we graduated this June.  We all (including Yuki) went to Montana's Cookhouse for dinner.  We also celebrated Dina's belated birthday!
